Vadsø is located on the coast of the Varanger Fjord, in the heart of the High North. An arctic capital, Vadsø is the seat of the Finnmark county administration and a center for decisionmaking in the northernmost part of Norway.

The city has over 6000 inhabitants of around 30 different nationalities live in this historically multicultural town. The region of Eastern Finnmark has 28 000 inhabitants, and borders Finland to the south and Russia to the East.
Vadsø has a busy harbour, and an airport with several daily connections to Tromsø and Oslo. Economically, the city boasts low unemployment, and a high competency work force, of which around half are employed in the private sector, many run their own businesses.
The region is known for its spectacular nature, including the unique bird life and the king crab, while culture and sports also takes centre stage in Vadsø, most importantly through hosting the biggest jazz festival in Northern Norway; Varangerfestivalen every August.
The main responsibilities of Varanger Næringssenter are marketing, training and networking services for its member companies and the city, as well as being a contact point for businesses that are interested in the city. Currently, the chamber runs large projects related to the tourism industry, and develops strategies related to the growing petroleum industry in the region.
